Dandruff and Seborrheic Dermatitis. Lusterless Hair.
Ayurvedic Remedies to Care your Hair.
Anyone suffering from hair loss must be patient. The re-growth time for hair is about two years with three months resting phase. Hair grows at the rate of about half an inch per month so it takes about a year for six inches to grow. That can seem like a very long time. But who knows, maybe you have encountered this problem in order to learn patience.
While hair loss and premature graying are Pitta conditions, dandruff and seborrhea indicate Vata and Kapha imbalance.

1. First step Ayurveda takes is analyzing the diet and lifestyle to see if they are increasing your dosha. Once you find it, give up or at least reduce diet, habit, or activity responsible for increasing Pitta, Vata or Kapha. (See Food list for Pitta, Vata and Kapha; Ayurvedic lifestyle and eating habits).
2. Second step is to correct metabolism:
Maintain a regular bowel movement every day. Triphala (Trifala) taken 5 to 10 gr at bedtime with milk or water is useful in constipation (See Triphala – Ayurvedic panacea).
3. Third step is to consume general tonics for improving hair growth. Chyavanprash proved to be effective for this condition. (See new old secret of Chyavanprash).
4. Fourth step: Topical applications.
1). Massage your scalp before bath with Dhurdhoorapathradi keram, Eladi keram, Chemparathyadi keram, Malathyadi thailam, Thripaladi keram or Coconut oil.
2). Mix Henna leaves with coconut oil and keep under direct sunrays for 7 days. Sieve and apply to the scalp 2 hours before head bath.
3). Triphala powder mixed with water is applied to the scalp, and then washed with lukewarm water.
4). Wash your hair with water boiled with Amla (Embelica officinalis) and/or Vettiveria zizanoids.
5). Apply a paste made with Mustard seeds on the hair daily for one week.
6). Use green gram powder (Phaseolus mungo) and curd as hair wash.
7). Mix coconut milk and natural lemon juice and apply on scalp before head bath.
5. Fifth step: Specific diet recommendations.
1). Lettuce and spinach, or carrot and lettuce juice is good to take in moderate quantities.
2). Always sit down to eat.
6. Sixth step: Additional recommendations.
1). Never wash your head with hot water. When I had Pancha Karma treatment in India they applied oil to my head and body every day for three weeks. When the massage oil was washed away I was impressed how much the temperature of hair wash and body wash differed. Head was washed with lukewarm water and immediately dried out with a towel, while water used for the body was hot.
2). Rub your scalp vigorously after washing the hair. It increases the blood circulation, and activates the sebaceous glands. That is exactly what the Indian ladies were doing to me.
Remedies for lusterless hair.
1). Add few drops of natural lemon juice to the water you are washing your hair with.
2). Use water boiled with powdered Amla (Embelica officinalis) to wash your hair.
3). Instead of shampoo wash your hair with mixture of 1 part powdered green gram (Phaseolus mungo) and ½ part Fenugreek seeds (Methi) powdered coarsely.
TODAY’S TIP: Oily hair and face are cured by applying oil. How can this be? Hair and face become oily because the fat glands are trying to produce oil, which the skin is lacking. As soon as skin and hair are nourished enough with oil according to the skin type, the fat glands start working properly. Thus it is obvious that the drying alcohol containing lotions only harm the skin.[/sociallocker]
