Brahmi (Gotu Kola) — 5 Comments

  1. Hi,Gary,
Ayurveda always recommend to use the whole plant because all its qualities are balanced. It is beneficial to take it in powedered form orally so it could go through the entire digestive tract including the mouth.
For how long should one take a remedy? The general rule is : until your symptoms disappear. Simply taking herbs without making some changes in your lifestyle and diet will probably not be sufficient. If your condition is chronic, you can not expect that it disappear in a week or a month. If your condition is serious, consult your doctor before taking any additional remedies.
    Thanks for your interest.
    Larisa.

  2. Hello,
Below is a quote from Michael Tierra’s book “The Way of Ayurvedic Herbs” (p.156):
“In India Gotu Cola (Centella Asiatica) is often used interchangeably with another similar herb, Bacopa (Bacopa monierra). Both are called “Brahmi”… There is some discussion about how interchangeable they really are… Baba Hari Das differentiates Centella as the “weaker brahmi” and Bacopa as the “stronger brahmi”.
