What does the plant look like?
Guggul is made from the resin of Commiphora Mukul.
It is closely related to myrrh. When fresh,
Guggul is golden, moist, viscid and fragrant. It melts in the sun and emulsifies in hot water.
Main healing properties.
Guggul is the most important resin used in Ayurvedic medicine. It is the main remedy against ama (toxins).
Similar to myrrh, it possesses strong purifying and rejuvenating powers.
Usage:
-Rejuvenates Vata, and Kapha, and only mildly aggravates Pitta after long term usage.
-Is the best medicine for arthritis.
-Increases white blood cell count.
-Disinfects secretions, including mucus, sweat, and urination.
-Normalizes appetite.
-Clears the lungs.
-Helps heal the skin and mucus membranes.
-Heals ulcer of the mouth and throat.
-Regulates menstruation.
-Reduces fat, toxins, tumors, and necrotic tissue.
-Clears oral infection.
-Lowers high cholesterol levels.
-Lowers high blood pressure.
-Regulates the bowels.
-Promotes flexibility and stamina.
Other fields of usage are:
-Hemorrhoids.
-Worms.
-Fistula.
-Impotence.
-Sciatica.
-Rheumatism.
-Gout.
-Amenorrhea.
Guggul formulas.
A whole series of medicines, called gugguls, consist mainly of this herb, with smaller amounts of other herbs used to direct its healing properties.The most known of them are:
Triphala Guggul is used for weight loss. Without depressing appetite, it reduces fat from the body and encourages permanent metabolic changes. Triphala Guggul de-congests body channels and scrapes away ama (See toxic Ama-the root of all diseases).
Yogaraj Guggul helps to maintain a healthy metabolism. It helps to reduce stiffness in the joints, nerves, and muscles. It is a powerful antioxidant that enhances the immune system.
Kachnar Guggul effectively flushes the lymphatic system of toxins and accumulated wastes.
Kaishore Guggul lowers cholesterol and assists in arthritic conditions.
Cautions: Acute kidney infection, acute stages of rashes, and all acute Pitta conditions.
TODAY’S TIP: Guggul is used more for chronic than acute conditions. It is a powerful medicine and should not be taken for a long period of time without consulting a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner.
