Chandra Namaskar vs. Surya Namaskar
Chandra Namaskar vs. Surya Namaskar
Chandra Namaskar (salutation to the Moon) is designed to enhance the lunar energy in our body. It gives peace and relaxation, and helps to recuperate. It is particularly useful for both men and women with Pitta and Vata constitution, and to everyone who has suffered a nervous breakdown or is under stress. A Moon Salutation acts as a nice relaxing bath. It is usually done in the evenings.
Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) energizes the body and mind and provides vitality, activity, determination, and clarity of mind. It improves blood circulation. It is done in the morning and is
particularly beneficial to people with Kapha and Vata constitution. Surya Namaskar acts as if you have exposed yourself to the morning sunlight even if it is a cloudy or rainy day.
[sociallocker]The sequence of asanas in Chandra Namaskar is the same as in the Surya Namaskar, except the Crescent moon asansa , which fundamentally changes the energy of the complex.
Notice, that to change impact from energizing to cooling we need only to add a Crescent moon posture after the first lunge and before the second one.
TODAY’S TIP: Women during their menstrual period should do only the Moon Salutation, if anything at all. Blood means fire and there is no need to add more flame to the system by performing Surya Namaskar.[/sociallocker]
Can Moon salutation be done after Sun salutation?
