Natural Painkillers
The first reaction to pain in modern man is to take a pill. But this is not the most useful option for our body. The pill simply breaks the neural connections between the nerve endings and the source of pain. In addition, all pills consist of synthetic substances, foreign to our body. To get rid of acute pain you may try some natural remedies.
✔ Willow bark
Willow bark is used to eliminate mild local inflammations, which are most often the cause of body pains. It has in its composition the substance salicin, which is a part of aspirin. In ancient times people chewed willow bark, and now it can be found in the form of a herbal tea. Willow bark helps to fight headaches, minor back pain, and even osteoarthritis.
Note: If you have intolerance to aspirin, then willow will not work for you. It can cause the same side effects as aspirin: an upset stomach and a slowing of kidneys function.
✔ Turmeric
Curcumin, the main active substance of turmeric, acts as an antioxidant. This yellow-orange spice removes inflammation, improves digestion, and relieves stomach pain, psoriasis, and ulcers. Due to the fact that turmeric improves blood circulation and dilutes the blood, it can be used for headaches. Add ½ tsp. turmeric to a ready-made dish or to freshly squeezed juice – the anesthetic effect will not keep you waiting.
People with hypoglycemia can use small amounts of turmeric in cooking but should not take it in large quantities. See also: Turmeric – the yellow wonder.
✔ Clove
Clove has a wide range of uses in the treatment of various diseases: it facilitates nausea, treats colds, fights headaches and toothaches, and also relieves pain in arthritis. In addition to the whole clove, you can find powder and oil. This spice is often used as a local anesthetic for bruises. Eugenol (clove’s active ingredient) is a part of many painkillers. Thus, you can get anesthesia directly from a natural source.
When you have a bad toothache, try a drop of clove oil on the tooth.
Just be careful if using clove oil: it is a highly concentrated substance that can increase bleeding in the body.
✔ Ajwan
This is an excellent painkiller and heart tonic.
For acute abdominal pain with indigestion, Dr. Vasant Lad recommends chewing ½ tsp of ajwan with a pinch of salt, then drinking one cup of warm water.
You can also combine ¼ tsp ajwan with ¼ tsp ground bay leaf and 1 tsp honey and take it twice a day–before lunch and dinner–for abdominal pain.
✔ Cumin
Cumin is an aromatic spice and mild pain reliever.
For stomach pain, make a mixture of ⅓ tsp cumin powder, a pinch of hing (asofaetida) and a pinch of rock salt. Mix and chew thoroughly, follow this with a drink of warm water.
For some relief from menstrual pain, roast cumin seeds in an ungreased iron pan until they smell pungent. Chew a spoonful slowly, followed by 1 Tbsp aloe vera juice.
✔ Nutmeg
Nutmeg can reduce headache and arthritic pain, according to Dr. Lad.
For relief from arthritic pain try rubbing nutmeg oil on the joint.
For headache, apply a paste of a pinch of nutmeg and water to the affected area.
✔ Acupuncture
The ancient practice of Oriental medicine is actively used in the modern world to alleviate body aches and balance energy. Acupuncture and reflexology affect the biologically active areas of the body and can serve as a safe anesthetic. A competent specialist can literally remove a headache, back pain, muscle and joint pain in a few movements.
For proper acupuncture, it is better to find an experienced specialist so as not to harm yourself.
✔ Ice
Applying ice is the first thing that comes to our mind with bruises and abrasions. Ice is one of the easiest and fastest pain relievers. Just wrap it in a towel and attach it to your forehead – this will ease a headache. Cold will also prevent the appearance of a bruise at the site of the injury, if you attach it immediately after the impact.
This pain medication has no contraindications, just try not to overcool the area of the skin that you are working on.
TODAY’S TIP: Pain is actually our best friend. It is how our body tells us that it is in trouble and needs our help. Pain killers are a quick remedy but the real problem behind our discomfort needs to be found and resolved. In dealing with the pain only, we act like a person with a broken leg who got anesthesia on it and then went skiing. Instead, thank your body for contacting you and consult a doctor.
