How to Check Which Philosophy is Right for You
How to Check Which Philosophy is Right for You
Sooner or later, every living creature asks the question: who I am, why am I here, who created the world around me and what is the relationship between me and the Creator.
The answers to such questions are usually given by philosophy. And we see many points of view, theories and doctrines. Thousands of books have been written, hundreds of schools preach.
The Vedas do not recommend blindly following philosophy, even if it seems very attractive to you. They provide a method for testing philosophy, for what purpose it was created and where it leads.
All knowledge should describe three categories. When we talk to someone about philosophy, we need to ask ourselves three things:
Reality (sambandha).
It defines what reality is and how everything relates to each other.
So we can ask, “What is sambandha, that is, what is reality? What is in this world?
One can say, “There is me, there is the world, and we are somehow connected with it.”
Another may say, “The world is a theater, and we are actors in it.” This means that such a person does not consciously live.
Another person may answer, “There is a Creator, there is me. I am not of this world, and I need to return to my real home. “
The activities (abhideya)
The second question to be asked is: “After I understand what reality is, what should I do now? Please tell me what to do, what is the practice, how should I live now. “
The goal of life (prayojana)
Third question: “What is the purpose? If I follow this philosophy, what will eventually happen? Where will I be? “
Someone will say, “There will be a lot of wine, and many other pleasures.”
Another will say, “You know, nothing will be there. You will be alone and no one will bother you. You will sleep all the time. “
And someone will say, “There we will love forever. To love means not wanting anything for yourself. “
The goals can be very different.
Thus, by asking these three questions (how the world works, what needs to be done, what is the goal), you can understand what kind of philosophy you are being offered. Then you can evaluate this information and make an informed decision.
In all time-tested scriptures there is an understanding that there is a Creator and our destiny is to be in harmony with Him. However, for different people a different level of relationship is given, while the principle remains everywhere.
How do we know if a particular philosophy is working? There is only one criterion – time. Time-tested scriptures were written by goswami (holy men who have mastered their senses such as anger, greed, lust and fear). Then people began to live by these books and, with the help of the means indicated in the scriptures, achieved these goals.
TODAY’S TIP: Another way to test the truth of a doctrine is to see if saints appear in that philosophy.
