Marma Therapy – an Important Instrument in Ayurvedic and Chinese Medicine
Marma Vidya is the teaching of marmas. Marmas are highly sensitive vital points of the human body, damage to which can even cause death. In ancient times, knowledge about them was used in military affairs. On the battlefield, a blow to a vital point undermined the energy of the enemy, on the other hand the knowledge of marmas helped doctors heal wounded soldiers.
According to Marma Vidya, there are several sheaths that cover our spiritual essence, our real self. One of them is an ethereal one, a kind of biocomputer, which has 108 centers, or energy-information spheres, which we call marmas (some sources speak of 107 centers). Marmas have their own frequency characteristics, are constantly in motion and control us at 5 levels: at the level of the physical body, psyche, vital organs, joints and tissues.
Marma therapy is a method of actively influencing these centers, aimed at “tuning” a person, bringing energy-information spheres into a state of balance, keeping them healthy or healing an illness. Marma therapy has 5 areas: marma massage, acupuncture, hirudotherapy (leech treatment), bee stinging (apitherapy) and energy surgery. Of them the marma massage is most often used.
Marma massage
The doctor transfers consciousness to the tip of his finger and acts on the marma ideomotorally, conveying a thought, and thereby tuning the marma to the required frequency response. Marma massage is aimed at specific affected organs, while acupuncture has a systemic effect.
Acupuncture
All chronic diseases are systemic. For example, skin diseases depend not only on skin, but also on blood, liver, kidneys, respiratory system, central nervous system and hormonal system. So acupuncture affects several body systems.
Hirudotherapy
Leeches secrete biologically active substances, which prevent thrombosis, and stimulate the formation of satisfying endorphins and somatotropin, a hormone that has a rejuvenating effect.
Western hirudo therapy acts mechanically, while marma therapy helps
leeches tune in or reconfigure a bodily system. In marma therapy, the doctor who puts the leech transfers a mental image to it, and the leech can put the energy of recovery on a certain marma.
Apitherapy
When a bee stings, the effect compared to leeches is amplified many times because a bee dies in order to help a person, therefore it makes a breakthrough in its karma and its impact is stronger than that of a leech. An experienced marma doctor knows when to use a leech and when to resort to bees. For example, a person with lesion joints is given bee stinging, since bee venom has the ability to regenerate damaged tissues and gives an analgesic effect – the pain usually goes away at the 2nd – 3rd session.
Energy surgery
Energy surgery is a method of teleportation known to many by Filipino healers, when the surgery is performed without tearing the tissue. It is used in Marma Vidya in order to remove scars, adhesive diseases or energy-information infections.
Apitherapy, hirudotherapy and acupuncture, not to mention the still rare energy surgery, can only be used by a doctor, while marma massage can be used by any person who has received appropriate training, is initiated into the tradition and has the permission of a teacher.
In Marma Vidya you can work only by passing the energy of the universe through yourself, your own energy will not be enough. Everyone can try to learn marma therapy, but the system itself is protected from strangers, it will simply push them out. If a person has not passed certain stages, has not opened his heart, has not learned to love, he will not be able to apply this method. There are people who have an inborn talent and, after completing a course of study, they can immediately work correctly, while others must mature. However, starting to heal others does not mean stopping learning, otherwise, the energy flow is blocked.
Marma Vidya has 144 main keys (skills), first the student receives 36, and when he masters them perfectly, he can pass them on to others, while he himself receives the next set of keys. This is like stares, one is constantly learning while teaching others.
The general scheme of treatment in Marma Vidya looks like this:
10-15 massage sessions, each of which lasts a little more than an hour and ends with acupuncture.
At home the doctor prescribes certain diet, exercise, and natural preparations.
Then a break is taken for 3-6 months, during which the patient follows the doctor’s recommendations.
Marma therapy is used both independently and in combination with various types of massage. Being an integral part of Ayurvedic medicine, it can cure many types of diseases, improve the general condition of the human body and even rejuvenate it. In this case, various types of vegetable and essential oils can be used to enhance the effect.
Marma therapy is also used for cosmetic purposes when massaging the face and head, helping not only to get rid of pain, fatigue, stress and depression, but also to harmonize your feelings.
All asanas in yoga were created taking into account the knowledge of marmas, since when yoga postures are performed, various marmas are affected, which can enhance the effect of exercises.
And even during meditation, yogis rely on that knowledge, focusing on the flow of energies in certain areas, transferring attention from one area to another.
